WhatsApp Notification Not Working in iOS 12/11.4? Here are 7 Tips to Fix It

by  Joan J. Mims  |  Tuesday September-25 2018  13:39:07

Upgraded from a 5S recently. I've been having an issue with the App Badge notifications on the iPhone 8. They will not show the number of unread whatsapp messages. In fact, there is no display of any app badge. Messages still show up in notification centre though. Any help would be appreciated!”

Apple has release iOS 12 last week. There was so much enthusiasm to upgrade to the newest iOS version. However, a new system bug appears again. Several users posted in Apple's official developer forum earlier today, complaining that the WhatsAapp notification not working. Other users who have encountered the similar problem also left their feedback in the thread.

Here are quick fixed for you to try if you have encountered the same WhatsApp notification issue.

Tip 1. Turn on WhatsApp Notification

You might as well check whether the option of 'Allow Notifications' has been turned on suppose that you can normally get notifications from other apps rather than WhatsApp. After upgraing to a new iOS version, all the origininal settings will be reset, including the app notification settings. Thus it is the first thing you need to do when you found the WhatsAapp notification not working on iPhone.

Step 1. Go to Settings from the home screen on iPhone and select Notifications.

Step 2. Find WhatsApp option and toggle on the button of Allow Notifications, Sounds, etc.

Tip 2. Clear WhatsApp Cache Files

WhatsApp caches will occupy large storage space and prevent the app from running properly. Sometimes the whatsApp notification will not work or be delayed due to the cache files. Thus you need to clear whatsapp cache in time.

Step 1. Head over to Settings app on iPhone, scroll down and select General option.

Step 2. Find the option of "Storage & iCloud", tap on WhatsApp option and you will view the usage of the cache files.

Step 3. Click on “Delete App” and the cache files will be erased.

Tip 3. Uninstall and Reinstall WhatsApp

The easiest and most fast-forward method to fix the notification issue is to delete and reinstall the WhatsApp application.

Keep pressing the WhatsApp icon until the app waggles, then click "X" to uninstall the app. After that, search WhatsApp on Apple store and reinstall it on iPhone. Remember to back up whatsapp chats from settings before the uninstallation.

Tip 4. Turn off Do Not Disturb from settings

Do Not Disturb option is helpful when you do not want to be interrupted. Any calls, alerts, and notifications will not make any noise, lighten up when the device is locked. However, the notifications will stop working on iPhone if Do Not Disturb is unknowingly turned on. Check whether there is a moon icon near the battery icon. The moon icon means that Do Not Disturb is activated.
You have to head over to Settings> Do Not Disturb>Turn off  to turn off Do Not Disturb.

Tip 5. Check Network Settings on iPhone

The apps and the notifications will not work properly if your iPhone is not connected to a poor network. Check the signal of Wi-fi or cellular data from home screen. If it is of weak signal, you will need to switch it to a strong  wifi network or directly navigate to Settings-General-Reset Network Settings  to erase the old network settings and reset as a new one.

  • It can fix numerous iOS system issues without any data loss.
  • Various iOS system issues, such as black screen, app notification issue, keep rebooting, etc. will be repaired in one click.

Tip 7. Downgrade iOS version

Since the notification issue occurs when the iPhone is upgraded to iOS 12, you may consider downgrading the iOS to previous version. Before you start to downgrade the iOS version, ensure that everything on your iPhone is well backed up, as the backups of iOS 12 will not be restored to the iPhone with iOS 11.
